Drinking water treatment in northern Peru

The water is very salty and therefore not drinkable in La Union, northern Peru. The residents are therefore forced to buy drinking water in bottles or tanks. For the Santa Bernardita school, this is associated with enormous costs. Sister Karina from Waldviertel, who is currently working at the school, has set herself the goal of finding a solution with the headmistress. After a long search, they came across BBM. BBM sent a water treatment plant for approx. 200l/h to Peru, assembled it on site and put it into operation. The core technology of the plant is reverse osmosis. This is a common method of treating salty water. In this process, the water is pressed through a membrane under high pressure. The salt remains behind. Possible microbial contamination is killed with a UV lamp.

As with all projects, it was important for BBM to involve local staff in this one. Last but not least, maintenance protocols were jointly developed to ensure the longevity of the plant.
