Repair of solar pump in Dem. Rep. of the Congo

In 2012, BBM supplied and installed a solar pump for a health centre near Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The solar pumping system uses solar energy to pump water from the well into water tanks. After about 10 years in operation, the pump was damaged by a lightning strike. The project partners were thus forced to fall back on a pump with a generator, which is expensive to operate. So it was not surprising that the partners approached us and enquired about the extent to which a repair would make sense. After an analysis by BBM, it was found that with a minimal input of funds, repair would be easily possible. Most of the spare parts were procured locally. The repairs were also carried out locally. BBM supervised these via video support from Austria – no problem nowadays, thanks to technological progress.
